October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which first began in 1981 by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence as a Day of Unity to connect battered women’s advocates across the country.
As Soroptimists, we care deeply about supporting domestic violence (also called intimate partner violence, domestic abuse, or relationship abuse) survivors as well as bringing awareness to these issues. The reason for our mission of providing women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment, is in part to help women and girls escape domestic violence situations and not return.
All month we will be showing our support in a number of ways, including sharing data, raising money, highlighting first person testimonials, and showcasing organizations.
